Homemade Vanilla Vodka
I am having so much fun experimenting and creating oh-so-delicious cocktails for my Summer Cocktail Series right now! However… it does get a little expensive when I’m constantly buying new liquors and mixes to play with. So I decided to take my experiments one step further and create my own Vanilla Vodka.
Sure I could just buy some Vanilla Vodka at the store, but then I’d be stuck with yet another bottle in my cramped liquor cabinet. If I could just throw some parties it would be no big deal, I could use it up in one night! But with social distancing and caution over large get togethers parties will have to wait.
The best thing about making my own Vanilla Vodka is that I know exactly what’s in it! I try to avoid artificial flavours, colourings, chemicals and added sugars whenever possible. So this homemade option is perfect for anyone who wants to keep their diet clean, but still enjoy delicious cocktails.
It’s stupid simple, I promise
You literally only need two ingredients, a jar and time.
For the Vodka I used Titos Vodka because it’s such a smooth, great tasting vodka. However feel free to use whatever you have in your liquor cabinet.
The vanilla beans I used are Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans that i picked up in my local Loblaws Grocery Store. They are natural, organic and have a rich vanilla flavour.
You can use any jar or bottle you have in your cupboards, but I found this cute one at my local dollar store and couldn’t resist. It has a little chalkboard sticker label on the front so I can label the contents. Excuse my messy handwriting!
good things come to those who wait
The most difficult part of making Homemade Vanilla Vodka is the waiting. You need to submerge the vanilla beans in the vodka and let them soak. One week is good, but after two weeks the vanilla is so much more rich. I promise you the wait is worth it.
Now that I’ve patiently waited my two weeks it is ready to enjoy! Stay tuned for all the yummy Vanilla Vodka Cocktails to come. In the meantime check out these other great cocktails in my Summer Cocktail Series:
