Summer Cocktail Series: Wyld Roses Spritz
There’s just something special about cocktails on a dock at the cottage. This Wyld Roses Spritz was the perfect signature cocktail for a much needed escape form reality this week.
I ran away to a beautiful cottage on Haliburton Lake this week and it was perfect. It was just far enough from civilization and completely disconnected from technology, and it gave me time to recenter myself. With everything going on in the world it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, and like you can’t win for trying.
I think we forget to unplug and enjoy the moment from time to time, which is so unfortunate. If we can’t find moments to enjoy then what’s the point in living anyways? And it’s these moments away from the noise of the world that can do wonders for our hearts, and recharge us.
roses run wyld
My inspiration for this Wyld Roses Spritz came from my love of roses, the contents of the fridge and some input from my friends.
Roses are perhaps my favourite flower. My mom used to grow the most beautiful rose bushes when I was growing up. I never did inherit her green thumb but I try. Roses are not only beautiful flowers, they remind us that even the most beautiful things have thorns.
I love roses and if you visit my home you’ll know. I love the scent of roses, decorating my house with fresh cut roses and I am currently growing my own beautiful pink roses on my balcony.
So naturally when I saw the Ketel One Botanicals Grapefruit and Rose Vodka I knew I had to try it. It paired perfectly in this spritz, but it’s also great with just club soda.
Use frozen fruit instead of ice
I love to use frozen fruit to chill my drinks instead of ice. Ice is great, but when it melts it waters down the drink and changes the taste of the cocktail. That’s perfectly fine for a simpler drink like a vodka soda, because it doesn’t actually change the taste profile.
For this Wyld Roses Spritz I used frozen watermelon triangles. Watermelon has a very light subtle flavour, and a high water content which makes it perfect for freezing. The subtle flavour adds a tiny bit of depth to the cocktail without upsetting the balance of the rose, rosé and rosemary. However, my favourite thing about using frozen fruit in my cocktails is enjoying it once the drink is done because it soaks up all the flavours.
Perfect for Pitchers
When I’m relaxing on vacation the last thing I want is anything complicated. This cocktail is perfect for just yourself, but also incredibly easy to make in larger batches to enjoy with friends.
Just grab yourself a large pitcher, or punch bowl and multiply the recipe by 4 or 6. Layer the ingredients the same way and serve in whatever glasses you have on hand. Add some frozen watermelon and a sprig of rosemary to each glass and cheers!
Try this Wyld Roses Spritz for your next cottage get away or patio party.
